I will be Your God

NEW EVERY MORNING

Psalm 119:65-72

Praise, confession, commitment, and requests are all part of this prayer.  The theme comes from an event in the life of God’s child, affliction.  God is praised for dealing well with Your servant according to Your Word.  The praise continues with You are good and do good.

Confession comes with these statements; before I was afflicted I went astray and it is good for me that I was afflicted that I might learn Your statutes.  The prayer ends with praise for the value of God’s law; the law of Your mouth is better to me than thousands of gold and silver pieces.

In between the praise statements are requests and commitments.

·        Teach me good judgment and knowledge

·        Teach me Your statutes

·        I believe in Your commandments

·        I keep Your Word

·        I keep Your precepts with my whole heart even though I am attacked with lies by those who do not know You

·        I delight in Your law

AMEN!

Praise God for the way He is working in your life as you glorify and enjoy Him today.

HAVE A BLESSED DAY!

·        Be gracious to me according to Your promise

·        I turn my feet to Your testimonies when I think of Your ways

·        I hasten to keep Your testimonies

NEW EVERY MORNING

Psalm 119:49-56

This is a prayer about remembering.  It starts with the request of God to remember His servant because he hopes in God’s promise, and finds comfort in the knowledge that God’s promise gives him life.  He is filled with righteous anger because of the way the wicked treat him and God’s law.  During these difficulties God’s servant (child) takes comfort in God’s faithfulness and His rules.

The life resolutions in this prayer are:

·        I do not turn away from Your law

·        I take comfort in Your rules

·        Your statutes are my songs

·        I keep Your law and precepts

God’s child recognizes the blessing of being able to remember God’s name in the night and, finding comfort in God’s mercy at the end of the day.

AMEN!

Find comfort today in God’s mercy as you glorify and enjoy Him.

HAVE A BLESSED DAY!

NEW EVERY MORNING

Psalm 119:41-48

The theme of the prayer in these eight verses is God’s mercy (steadfast love) that freely gives salvation to His child.  You can do nothing to deserve what God gives to you.  God has promised; He will do it.

   These are the requests:

·        Don’t take Your Word away from me

These are the life resolutions attached to the requests:

·        I hope in Your rules

·        I will keep Your law continually forever and ever

·        I will walk in wide places – I am free not to sin

·        I seek Your precepts

·        I will speak of Your testimonies before rulers and not be put to shame

·        I love and find delight in Your commandments

NEW EVERY MORNING

Psalm 119:33-40

The process of becoming more like God (holy) is the theme of this prayer.  As you spend time with God you learn more about who He is and what He desires for you, His child.  I long for Your precepts should be the cry from all of God’s children.  But, the reality is that many long much more for the things that surround them rather than the things of God.

The forgiven sinner who has been restored (25-32) now asks for wisdom.

·        Teach me the way of Your statutes

·        Give me understanding that I may keep Your law

·        Lead me in the paths of Your commandments

·        Incline my heart to Your testimonies and not to selfish gain

·        Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things

·        Give me life in Your ways

·        Confirm to Your servant Your promise that You may be feared

·        Turn away the reproach that I dread (sin)

·        In Your righteousness give me life

These requests have life resolutions attached.

·        I will keep Your law and statutes to the end

·        I will observe Your law with my whole heart

·        I delight in Your commandments

·        Your rules are good

·        I long for Your precepts

AMEN!

Glorify and enjoy God today as you live in His wisdom.

NEW EVERY MORNING

Psalm 119:25-32

Have you ever had days when you are faced with how easy it is to sin, even when your heart’s desire is to glorify God?  All of God’s children experience this.  The prayer in this passage deals with confronting nagging sin.

The process begins with confession.

·        My soul clings to the dust – I am human therefore, I sin

·        My soul melts away for sorrow

·        When I told You of my ways, You answered me

Once sin is confessed then prayer for restoration and renewal begins.

·        Give me life according to Your Word

·        Teach me Your statutes

·        Make me understand the way of Your precepts

·        Strengthen me according to Your Word

·        Put false ways far from me

·        Graciously teach me Your law

·        Enlarge my heart – make me desire You more

·        Don’t let me be put to shame – keep me from sin

Then plans are stated to keep from sinning.

·        I have chosen the way of faithfulness

·        I set Your rules before me

·        I cling to Your testimonies

·        I will run in the way of Your commandments

AMEN

Thank God for His faithfulness in forgiving sin, as you glorify and enjoy Him today.

HAVE A BLESSED DAY!

NEW EVERY MORNING

Psalm 119:17-24

The theme in this prayer is a request for God’s continued grace and mercy in sustaining His child’s life for the purpose of obedience.  In order to fulfill this purpose the following requests are made:

·        Open my eyes and allow me to see the wonders of your law (wisdom)

·        Don’t hide your commandments from me (understanding)

·        Let my resolve to serve you be understood in society

The following thoughts about God’s Word and His child’s worldview are in this prayer:

·        I am only in this world for a short time and it is not home

·        Your rules are what drive my life

·        I have kept your testimonies

·        Even though the rulers of this world plot against me I will meditate on Your statutes

·        Your testimonies are my delight and counselors

Amen!

Make this your prayer as you glorify and enjoy God today

NEW EVERY MORNING

Psalm 119:17-23

There are theories as to why Psalm 119 is written in the format of heading sections alphabetically (Hebrew alphabet).  The rest of the Psalm will be viewed from the theory that each section is a separate prayer of King David and the whole Psalm is a collection of prayers, each identified by a Hebrew letter.  David had a record of how God had worked in his life when he reviewed what he had written.

Writing prayers or prayer requests in a journal is the contemporary format of what this Psalm is.  Sometimes life becomes so busy and complicated that it is hard to see God at work in your daily life.  When you record your thoughts about God’s Word, your praise and thanksgiving for what God has done, your requests for how you desire God to work in your life, and your promises to be faithful, you will be writing a Psalm 119.  Reviewing God’s faithfulness gives strength to continue being faithful.

Beginning with the third section of Psalm 119, the first verse of each section is a summary request or statement.  The rest of the verses tie in to the first statement.  These are thoughts about God’s Word, praise and thanksgiving, requests, or promises.

Focus on how God is working in your life as you glorify and enjoy Him today.

HAVE A BLESSED DAY!

NEW EVERY MORNING

Psalm 119:15-16

Teachers use behavioral objectives to state how the lesson will affect the student.  These are the goals of the time spent with the teacher.  There are four outcomes or goals in these verses.  They are easily measured with one simple question; how much time do you spend with God’s Word?

Meditate (contemplate), fix my eyes (focus), delight (passionately obey), and not forget (remember) are the behavioral objectives for spending time in God’s Word.  They are stated as promises by the writer and they are the actions that guard one’s life.  These are vows that God’s child should recall frequently.

Does this mean you must spend the majority of your day reading the Bible?  That would not be bad but, these principles have to do with God’s Word creating your world view.  Books, sermons, internet resources, bible studies are some of the resources to keep you in God’s Word.

Glorify and enjoy God today as you spend time with Him.

NEW EVERY MORNING

Psalm 119:10-14

You were created to glorify and enjoy God.  These verses give practical ways of doing this and prayers for faithfulness.  You glorify God by:

·        Sincerely seeking Him with all your heart (10)

·        Making His Word part of yourself to prevent sin (11)

·        Understanding who He is  (12)

·        Communicating His Word to others (13)

·        Delighting in the things of God (14)

There are two requests of God in these verses: let me not wander from your commandments (10); teach me your statutes (12).  These are prayers for faithfulness and knowledge.  When you faithfully apply the process found in these verses the result is greater understanding of who God is and how He works in His creation.

Glorify and enjoy God today as you apply these verses to your life.

HAVE A BLESSED DAY!
