A disciple is personally responsible for his obedience to Christ. Jesus made this clear to Peter in these verses. Peter did not have to be concerned with the work given to others; he needed only to obey.
The author of this book reveals himself as the disciple Jesus loved. This does not mean Jesus did not love the other disciples. It does mean that John was a special friend, one who loved to spend time with Jesus.
John ends his documentary on the ministry of Jesus with a statement about the infinite work of Jesus in the world. Were every one of them (His works) to be written, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written. Jesus worked for the good of His people before creation and at creation. He has worked for the good of His people throughout time and will continue that work to the end of time.
Then His people will spend eternity with Jesus because His work in the world is complete. AMEN!
What is Jesus telling you about Himself and how should you respond?
Glorify and enjoy God as you obey Him today.

NEW EVERY MORNING
The Good Shepherd delegated the responsibility of caring for the sheep to His disciples. Jesus would no longer be physically present with His disciples and He was preparing them to be His hands and feet in the world. The lambs and sheep needed shepherds who would lead them into truth, nurture them with love, and help them grow in faith. Feeding the flock and following the Good Shepherd was the work given to the disciples.
What is Jesus telling you about Himself and how should you respond?
Glorify and enjoy the Good Shepherd as you follow Him today.
HAVE A BLESSED DAY!
NEW EVERY MORNING
This passage provides insight into the relationship between Jesus and His disciples. First, He helped them with the mundane things of everyday life. These disciples were involved in the work they did for a living, fishing. After a night’s work the nets were empty. Jesus shared His wisdom with them and the disciples followed it. They caught fish, filling the net.
Then Jesus met their physical need of hunger. He prepared breakfast for them. But, more importantly, Jesus spent time with His disciples as they spent time with Him in the early morning.
What is Jesus telling you about Himself and how should you respond?
Glorify and enjoy your risen Saviour as you praise Him because He gives you wisdom, provides for your needs, and desires to spend time with you.
HAVE A BLESSED DAY!
NEW EVERY MORNING
These verses are John’s summary of Jesus proving that He had risen from the dead, just as He said He would. The reason John wrote about Jesus appearing to the disciples, and to Thomas, was so the readers of this account would believe in Jesus and find eternal life.
This is the purpose of each word in the Bible, that those who read it can find the message of who God is and what God expects of them. God is holy. Man is sinful. Jesus bore the sin of man on the cross, so man could be forgiven and made holy. Those who confess theirs sins, coming to Christ in faith, have been made righteous. God no longer sees their sin rather, He sees Jesus representing them.
What is God telling you about Himself and how should you respond?
Glorify God today as you enjoy being forgiven because of Christ’s death.
HAVE A BLESSED DAY!
NEW EVERY MORNING
Thomas was a man who had skeptical faith. That is not necessarily a bad quality as there is a lot of content within Christianity that is not of God. However, Jesus promised His disciples that they would know the truth. So, just as He promised, Jesus showed the Truth to Thomas. As Thomas touched the scars in Jesus’ hands he responded; My Lord and my God.
What is Jesus telling you about Himself and how should you respond?
Glorify and enjoy God today as you live your faith – the assurance of things hoped for the conviction of things not seen. (Hebrews 11:1)
