Proverbs begins by introducing the one credited for compiling this collection of wisdom. The editor/author is King Solomon, ruler of the nation Israel, and son of King David. He was not just any king in a line of royalty. God gave Solomon a special gift. Read I Kings 3:5-14 then answer the following:
-
How did God come to Solomon? (5)
-
What did God offer Solomon? (5)
-
What did Solomon ask of God? Why? (9)
-
Summarize God’s response to Solomon’s request: (12)
-
State the command and promise in verse 14
Solomon was blessed by God in all areas of his life. He became world famous and leaders from other countries came to him for wisdom. You can read about his life after this encounter with God in I Kings 3-11. Sadly, Solomon failed in applying wisdom to his life. He was a man who strayed into the way of folly rather than staying on the path of wisdom.
As you go through Proverbs each day let the words of this verse help you apply the truths in this book:
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. James 1:4
What is God telling you about Himself and how should you respond?
Glorify and enjoy God today as you apply the wisdom He gives you.
HAVE A BLESSED DAY
