Proverbs 1:8-9                          Not the ‘Simpsons’

Ephesians 5:22-6:3

The Book of Proverbs is developed from the view of the concerned father giving counsel to his child in various areas of life.  Proverbs 1:8-9 describes the critical role of parents in the life of a child.  This is a Proverbs Principle; a biblical statement that is applicable to all people throughout history.  God’s plan for growing up in His world is a family that is structured according to God’s Word.  The father is the spiritual head of the home and the mother is his helper.  Together they model godly lives for their children to follow, teaching them how to live in God’s world.

The Apostle Paul describes the Biblical family model in Ephesians 5-6.  Read the passage in Ephesians to answer the following questions.

¨            What are the responsibilities of husband and wife?

¨            Who is their model for family life?

¨            What responsibility do children have in the family?

¨            How do you live out your responsibility?

Popular culture has many messages about family life.  TV sitcoms frequently present families in which parents are comedic figures who are dissed and manipulated by their children.  Do you think this has an impact on relationships between parent and child in real life?  How?

Not all parents are biblical role models.  Does the Bible say that you do not need to listen and obey this type of parent?  Why?

What is God telling you about Himself and how should you respond?

Glorify and enjoy God today as you serve Him in your family.

 HAVE A BLESSED DAY!
