Chapter 2 is written in a format of cause and effect. Verses 1-5 contain three ifs with connected actions. Verse 5 begins the thens, direct effects of if. The rest of the chapter contains effects of seeking Wisdom.
The if statements are:
-
If you receive my words and treasure up my commandments . . .
-
If you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding . . .
-
If you seek it like silver and search for it as hidden treasures . . .
The then (so) statements are:
-
Then you will understand the fear of the Lord and understand the knowledge of God -
-
Then you will understand righteousness and justice and equity, every good path –
-
So you will be delivered from the forbidden woman –
-
So you will walk in the way of the good and keep to the paths of righteousness –
Each of the effect statements have explanations of why they occur:
-
For the Lord gives wisdom . . .
-
For wisdom will come to your heart . . .
-
For her house (the forbidden woman) sinks down to death . . .
-
For the upright will inhabit the earth . . .
What is God telling you about Himself and how should you respond?
Glorify and enjoy God today as you receive His words.
HAVE A BLESSED DAY!
